The elections that dictated this victory took place on May 23, 2025, in Alandroal, during the extraordinary General Assembly of the AMPV - Association of Portuguese Wine Municipalities, which was attended by 71 member municipalities. In the running for the award were the Algarve Region, represented by six municipalities, and the Azores, with eight municipalities from three islands. Baixo Alentejo's application received 42 votes and will be officially presented to MEPs in the European Parliament.
The winning application was promoted by the Alentejo Regional Tourism Authority, CIMBAL - Comunidade Intermunicipal do Baixo Alentejo, and the 13 municipalities that make up this inter-municipal community: Aljustrel, Almodôvar, Alvito, Barrancos, Beja, Castro Verde, Cuba, Ferreira do Alentejo, Mértola, Moura, Ourique, Serpa and Vidigueira.
