The Wine Tour that gave #RestartTourism and #play in rural development

The 5th UNWTO Global Conference on Wine Tourism took place from 8 to 10 September and the beautiful Alentejo landscape of Reguengos de Monsaraz was the chosen setting.

With a view to promoting the role of wine tourism in a more sustainable, inclusive and resilient future for remote rural communities, the first post-pandemic event promoted worldwide by the World Tourism Organization (WTO) brought together around 890 participants, more than 30 speakers, 32 international press representatives and 12 national media.

Visit Portugal, Alentejo Tourism and Reguengos de Monsaraz Town Council have joined forces in the organisation and have "further refined the taste" of this meeting, where only sustainable materials have been used and there is a focus on the local economy, with 75% of the partners being local businesses. The programme also includes three technical visits to renowned wine estates in the area and a wine masterclass.
